Brian Ross, FCPA, FCA
Brian Ross is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. He earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1985 with a national firm in Edmonton and has been practicing in Bonnyville and Cold Lake for more than 25 years. He has been an owner and partner at Ross and Sylvestre Chartered Accountants (and its predecessor firms) since 1987.
Brian’s accounting practice has evolved over the years and today includes business advisory services to clients in the oil and gas service sector,particularly with respect to merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions. Brian has been active in the CA student education process over the years, is a past member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta’s practice review and professional development committees and was awarded the honor of Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta (FCA) in 2007.
Brian believes in giving back to the community in which he lives and has been involved in local hockey as the director of the Bonnyville Pontiacs, and as a member of the board of the Lakeland Sports and Recreation Association. Brian is also a past vice president of the Bonnyville Chamber of Commerce.
Greg Sylvestre, CPA, CA
Greg Sylvestre holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from The University of Calgary and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He earned his Chartered Accountant and Certified Financial Planner designations in 1999 with a national CA firm in Calgary. He is a past facilitator of the IC AA’s Corporate Controllership Program and a graduate of the CICA’s In-Depth Tax Program (1 and 2).
In addition to his years of public practice experience, Greg brings forth a range of industry experience, including four years as CFO of a resort development company. He has negotiated debt and equity financing for several ventures, and has led acquisition and divestiture transactions. Greg joined Ross and Sylvestre in 2004 and became partner of the firm in 2006.
Born and raised in Bonnyville, Greg is active in his community and is the board chairman for Hearts for Healthcare, a regional charity organization and coaches the Cold Lake Blizzards alpine ski racing team.
Jenilee Melnyk, CPA, CA
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Jenilee Melnyk moved west after obtaining her Bachelor of Administration with Distinction from the University of Regina in 2004. Jenilee joined Ross & Sylvestre as an articling student that same year. In 2008, Jenilee earned her Chartered Accountant designation and transitioned to a junior staff accountant with the firm and later a senior staff accountant. In 2013, Jenilee became a senior manager responsible for all stages of compilation engagements for small- to medium-sized private enterprises and not-for-profit organizations. Her primary responsibilities at Ross & Sylvestre include all manners of assurance engagements for businesses and not-for-profit organizations; preparation and review of income tax returns; and tax plans and strategies for corporate and personal clients. In 2016, Jenilee became a partner of Ross & Sylvestre.
An active sport enthusiast, Jenilee enjoys spending time curling, playing golf, and softball.
Lise Gratton, CPA, CGA
Lise Gratton joined Ross & Sylvestre in 1997, and, with the exception of a two-year period during which she served as Secretary Treasurer of the East Central Francophone Education Region No. 3, has spent her working career with the firm. Lise obtained her Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation in 2001 while working with the firm as a staff accountant. While Lise continues to be involved in all stages of complex tax and accounting engagements, in 2013 she took on a senior management role, increasing her duties to include the development of firm policies, procedures and human resource practices, as well as management of the firm’s accounting staff. In 2016, Lise was promoted to partner of Ross & Sylvestre.
Born and raised in the Bonnyville area, Lise is an active participant in the community and has acted as a director of the St. Louis Parish Finance Committee, the treasurer of the Bonnyville Soccer Association, treasurer of the Bonnyville Ladies’ Curling Cub, and a director of the Bonnyville Health Centre Community Board. In her spare time, Lise enjoys coaching high-school volleyball.
